Documentation consultancy

If you're not sure about the best way to tackle a forthcoming project, or if you're considering setting up your own in-house documentation facility, we can provide impartial advice to steer you in the right direction.

In recent years the options available for developing documentation and publishing content have grown, leading to ever-increasing opportunities. We want to help you make an informed decision on the best way forward so that your business can exploit these opportunities to the full.

In a typical project we'll discuss your requirements and analyse your current practices, situation and needs. We'll then provide a proposal detailing the strategy that's right for you, including:

		An informed analysis of your current practices.
		A detailed assessment of the type of documentation you need to provide, both in terms of content and format. For example, should you be providing hard copy guides, online help or both? What information is it appropriate to provide in hard copy format and what online? Is a single source project appropriate?
		Recommendations of the best methods and working practices for streamlining the technical authoring and publishing process to save time and cost.
		Suggestions of the most suitable tools for producing your documentation from the maze of solutions on offer.
		An analysis of whether it will be more cost efficient for you to employ your own technical authors and technical writers, use contract technical authors and technical writers, out-source or use your own staff (or a combination of these).
		Recommendations of any technical author training needs you have.
		A mechanism for subsequent maintenance and updating your documentation.

If you decide to proceed with our recommendations, we can then start the ball rolling for you. We can give expert guidance on implementing the measures agreed and put in place the required working practices, standards and templates. We can also support you by providing any training that your staff require.

Our aim is to put you in a position to run your own projects once the consultancy period is complete, without being dependant on us. Should further assistance be required, however, we would always be available to provide this as necessary.
